Happy Sunday everyone! Today I’m excited to share that today’s #SundaySupper features Mom’s Favorite Recipes from all of today’s participants. Christie Campbell and Wendy Leep Hammond have done an amazing job this week co-hosting, and I’m excited to see all the recipes being shared today. As I mention in my recipe video below (please check it out/share it, let me know what you think of my ridiculousness) my recipe today is inspired by many weekends at my grandparents’ house.

We lived pretty close to my grandparents’ house growing up, the only real obstacle we ever had was the HRBT that we had to drive over to get there (if there was ever any accidents it would make the drive so much longer). My family always loved playing card and word games at their house, and we were all fairly competitive with one another. Whenever my mom needed a little sugar boost to get her brain going, she’d go for either the chocolate hazelnut truffles or the chocolate covered cherries my grandparents had in the house. I did a recipe last Christmas inspired by the hazelnut candy (see the recipe here) and today I’m making chocolate cherry candies of my own variety. I hope y’all enjoy!

Gluten Free Chocolate Cherry Candies

Gluten Free Chocolate Cherry Candies

  • 10 frozen or fresh sweet cherries, each cut into 8 pieces
  • 1 shot dark rum
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz dark chocolate

  1. In a small sauce pan, add the cherries and the dark rum.
  2. Cook over medium low heat for 8 minutes, until the fruit is soft and a syrup forms.
  3. Turn off the heat and add the butter and chocolate, broken into pieces.
  4. Stir until the chocolate and butter are completely melted.
  5. Pour the chocolate into the molds, and level the chocolates with a cake spatula.
  6. Refrigerate for 2 hours before popping out of the molds.

You'll also need a chocolate candy mold.
