strawberry mint sauce

 

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve been having a good weekend so far! This past week I’ve been working with Florida Strawberry Growers Association promoting Florida strawberries and highlighting where you can buy them. I wanted to end the social media campaign by sharing a gluten free strawberry sauce! We’re getting our first week of warm weather this week in Virginia, and it’s about time! I wanted to bust out the ice cream toppings in preparation of the warm weather!

This is a pretty easy sauce to make, there’s only 5 ingredients in the recipe and it really captures the essence of Florida Strawberries. I like to make a large portion when strawberries are in season, and I freeze it for use during the summer. This goes really great on top of ice cream, but you can also use it as a topping for cake or other desserts. I like adding a little mint into the sauce while it’s cooking to liven up the sauce, and a little rum to bring out some unique flavors.

Strawberry Mint Sauce

Ingredients

  • 10 strawberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2 sprigs mint
  • 1 shot rum

Instructions

  1. Remove the tops of the strawberries, slice them, and place them into the pot.
  2. Add the sugar, juice of the 1/2 lemon, mint, and rum.
  3. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove the mint from the berries, and transfer to an air tight container. Serve warm or cooled on ice cream.
