Today’s Food Tip Wednesday focuses on a topic that’s extremely relevant to my own life right now: how to eat homemade meals when life is insanely busy. This month I’m balancing crazy work hours, travel, finishing a house, blogging, and moving. Which really all just translates to exhaustion and not a lot of time for meals.
So what are some tips for folks like me who want to eat well, but just don’t have a lot of time to do so?
- If you can make a meal raw, do it. You’d be surprised at how quick raw meals take to make, and how well they travel. I love having some veggies, a spiralizer, and some other small utensils on hand to whip up quick and delicious dishes (see image above, where it will be the focus of a #WeekdaySupper post)
- Prepare ahead of time. If I know I’m going to be having a busy week, I like to prepare some sauces or pesto on the weekend that I can reheat during the week. If you want to prepare a huge batch for several weeks ahead, then pour the sauce into ice cube trays and store those in air tight containers in your freezer. It’ll make portioning out later on way easier, as you only reheat what you need.
- Equip your pantry to be flexible. I like to have some quick-to-prepare starches such as pasta or rice in my pantry that I can quickly combine with frozen vegetables or sauce for an easy and quick meal on a busy wekend.
